IDENTIFYING PENETRATING DAMP
Following instructions from one of our corporate companies an appointment was made for a damp proofing survey to be carried out to the basement area of a large office building in Esher High Street. Our Property Care Association (PCA) qualified damp and timber surveyor carried out a thorough survey on what was going to be a new plant room in the basement where considerable damp was present to several of the earth retaining walls. The correct system of structural waterproofing was decided on and our detailed report was forwarded to our clients for their approval.
ERADICATING PENETRATING DAMP
For this project we recommended injecting a new damp proof course directly above the external ground level and structurally waterproofing the internal wall surfaces of the basement (Tanking). Our experienced operatives removed all of the wall plaster, created a channel between the wall and the floor and thoroughly prepared the walls. A scratch coat of waterproof render was applied and allowed to cure. On to this two slurry coats of a cementitious structural waterproofing system (Tanking) were applied in accordance with our specification. A high performance floor/wall joint was formed and another waterproof render coat applied to the walls, which was sponged to a smooth finish. Holes were drilled in a chosen mortar joint just above the ground level, cleared of dust and injected with a Silane/Siloxane cream damp proof course. The holes were filled with sand and cement mortar to match existing.
