Why Does Dry Rot Occur?

Dry Rot Fungus (Serpula lacrymans) usually occurs when a property is not kept properly maintained and free from moisture ingress. When timber becomes wet fungal spores, which are permanently in the air, settle on the damp, wet timber and germinate, crating strands of mycelium which grow into the grain of the wood. As this becomes established the fungus becomes more widespread and causes more and more damage, there for the sooner it is eradicated the less it will cost.

If you have noticed a rotting, mushroom smell and found timber that crumbles in your hand or is discoloured you need to call Tapco HomeDry. When dry rot occurs; Tapco HomeDry’s Property Care Association (PCA) qualified damp and timber surveyors will expose and inspect the timbers and joinery to access how far the decay has spread.
