Condensation Control

We have all seen Condensation at some time or another. It can affect a property of any size or age and is caused by several factors; the main one being the lifestyle of the occupants. Examples of condensation are streaming windows, wet walls and mould, usually caused by not keeping the property at a constant, warm temperature during the cold winter months and not opening windows to extract steam after cooking, taking a bath or using the shower.

Another issue contributing to this is poor insulation, either in the loft or in the walls. This can create cold internal wall or ceiling surfaces, which become wet as the occupants increase the level of humidity. During winter months, high humidity affects at least one in five of all British homes and 75% of damp problems can be attributed to condensation, which, if not effectively controlled, can cause damage to your property, clothing and personal items, as well as being a serious risk to your health.

What Is It

Condensation occurs when warm moist air comes into contact with a cooler surface, such as a single-glazed window or a cold wall.

Do You Have It

Unlike other forms of damp, Condensation is seasonal. However, it shouldn’t be underestimated because the damage it can cause is considerable.

How we control it

Calculations will be made to determine the ‘dew point’ (the level at which humidity turns to water) and what control methods are required to raise it.
